Last fall, a cohort of Twin Cities communications agencies got together to talk about what additional actions we could take in addressing the racial inequities in our community and how we could work to change the make-up of the communications industry to better represent the world and the messages we put into it.
That was the spark for a newly launched program – The Twin Cities PR BIPOC Career Explorer. The Twin Cities PR BIPOC Career Explorer is an externship program designed for BIPOC students interested in the practice of public relations and communications. It’s open to BIPOC students in the “pre-internship” stage – roughly their junior year – to get the familiar with the agency career path.
Students who participate in this year’s virtual program will experience:
- A real-world look at the communications and PR agency profession through a direct-access learning program led by six leading Twin Cities PR agencies.
- Access to a network of professionals and mentors who can help connect them with future internship opportunities in the Twin Cities.
- Each student will receive a $1,000 stipend for participation.
The agencies organizing the program are:
- Carmichael Lynch Relate
- Exponent
- Hotwire
- Padilla
- Tunheim
- Weber Shandwick
In addition, we are working with three university partners – the University of Minnesota, Metro State and Augsburg – to recruit from a diverse base of students from different backgrounds.
Students can learn more and apply at BIPOC PR Careers.
